Dessert Labs is a gluten free baking company in Portland, OR.
We're currently on hiatus. We don't have a re-open date scheduled, but we have big plans.
We've come along from when we started this blog almost two years ago. We moved up to Portland from the SF Bay Area where we found a kitchen space and started contacting local cafes and stores interested in our products.
We raised over $2500 through Kickstarter and have found a very receptive audience of gluten free foodies.
Our food is 100% gluten free and truly delicious.
Dessert Labs is Joe Kalal and Karen Goetsch. Joe is in charge of making amazing food. Karen does everything else. Though this isn't an adventure that developed in a moment, it truly started one evening in a small restaurant in Brooklyn, NY. Knowing that we wanted to do something that would make gluten free food more accessible for people, we decided to start a baking company dedicated to that very goal.
Joe is a pastry chef, classically trained at the French Culinary Institute in NYC. He also has celiac. In addition to accessibility, he's determined to make food that is safe for other Celiacs and worth eating.
Karen has the business background with a certain DIY edge. Our business plan is based on our values of community, integrity and and people.
